Marvel Studios the Biggest Movie Franchise Ever Now

This comes to no shock to anyone that watches movie ever. Marvel has officially became the highest grossing movie series in the domestic box office with over $2.46 billion in sales over 9 movies.

That surpasses Harry Potter (8 movies), Star Wars (6 movies), and James Bond (23 films) to be the top grossing franchise. That is pretty prestigious thing to get just with 9 movies.

Captain America: The Winter Soldier is currently raising the number as it broke box office records for opening weekend. Also, with a list of movies coming out over the next couple of years, expect it to continue to rise above all others.

Nathan Fillion in Guardians of the Galaxy?

So as we previously posted, we were in attendance at the Wizard World St. Louis Con this past weekend. I can't believe I will admit I missed this news when it happened...I know shame on me for missing the Firefly panel on Sunday. I wish I could have been there to here the awesome news!

James Spader Cast as Ultron in Avengers 2!

Marvel wanted to break into the comic news area again after being shadowed by Ben Affleck thing. They decided it was a great time to announce who exactly will be playing the big baddie in Avengers: Age of Ultron. That person is James Spader!

James Spader is best known for being Alan Shore on Boston Legal and The Practice. Couldn't tell you anything about those shows because I'm not realllly sure that I have the right shows in my head. Boston Legal or The West Wing hmmm…never mind..political shows aren't my thing. Although, We geeks know him best as Dr. Dan Jackson from Stargate! Ya!

Ultron is going to be a big villain for the team of returning members and new members of The Avengers. It is a little fuzzy on how Ultron is going to be made without Dr. Hank Pym creating him, since, he won't really get introduced until Phase 3. Only time will tell..

The First Trailer for 'Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.'

The Avengers was a huge thing last year if you missed it. You'd have to be under a rock to have missed any news about it, but they announced they are making a tv series based around agents in the S.H.I.E.L.D. doing their thing when the Avengers are off doing bigger things. I will say that one guy in the trailer reminds me of Luke Cage a lot. (not just because he's big and black, but because he's strong and powerful!). Anyways, check out the trailer and see how it actually doesn't look too bad being it's on ABC. 

Clark Gregg reprises his role of Agent Phil Coulson from Marvel’s feature films as he assembles a small, highly select group of Agents from the worldwide law-enforcement organization known as S.H.I.E.L.D. Together they investigate the new, the strange, and the unknown across the globe, protecting the ordinary from the extraordinary. NYCC: Agent Coulson Will Star in TV Series S.H.I.E.L.D !!

At NYCC this weekend, Marvel TV head Jeph Loeb announced that Agent Phil Coulson will return but to the small screen in the live-action pilot 'Marvel's S.H.I.E.L.D'! I'm excited! I thought we saw "SPOILER" end of him after he died in The Avengers "SPOILER" sorry if I hurt some of you but if you didn't see the movie yet its all your fault I ruined it just sayin.. anyways.

Clark Gregg made a surprise appreance that the panel to announce it with a video of Joss Whedon and Kevin Feige. The pilot will be co-written between the Joss and Jed Whedon.

The Avengers Trailer!!

Finally we have been blessed with the long-waited for trailer for the upcoming epic nerdgasm film The Avengers. The trailer actually shows more footage then I thought Joss Whedon would allow knowing his vow to secretcy almost on par with J.J. Abrams. The footage looks really amazing and it gives everyone screen time accept I would like to see more of Hawkeye and Hulk. Also, I'm loving Stark's humor, it's fantastic as always.

Summer 2012 will be blockbuster crazy with The Dark Knight Rises, The Amazing Spider-Man, and The  Avengers.

New Pics from The Avengers

I know i've missed so much of The Avengers coverage over the last couple of months. I am sorry again. So I'll start fresh with some awesome photos that were featured in EW and other sites last week with 2 brand new ones that popped up online.

The first (new) photos feature a epic scene with Captain America (Chris Evans) and Thor (Chris Hemsworth) looking up at what I assume to be the enemy. The second new image is of director Joss Whedon talking to Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson) with a guy posing like fonzie in the background.

SDCC: Marvel Panel with The Avengers Cast!!

The biggest panel to me at Comic-Con this year was the Marvel Studios panel in Hall H. I was pretty blown away with what they did with Tron: Legacy on Thursday, but this definitely steals the show.

The panel would consist of Thor and maybe some footage of Captain America because it's been filming for about 9 days. However,  I was not expecting to anything for The Avengers because it hasn't even began production yet.

The first group at the panel was for Captain America and they started off with a teaser trailer that showed some stuff during WWII and a quick shots of Captain America.

They brought out director Joe Johnston with stars Chris Evans and Hugo Weaving.

Kevin Feige said "The footage of Captain America was just from the costume test."

Right after they finished with Captain America they began the Thor panel with some stellar footage that shows some scenes that sum up the plot.

Then the next bit of news really surprised me because they showed a teaser trailer for The Avengers. The trailer showed nothing but the avengers emblem and a voiceover by Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury.

They then introduce Sam Jackson himself then they bring out the rest of the cast including Clark Gregg, Scarlett Johansson as Black Widow, Chris Hemsworth as Thor, Chris Evans as Captain America and then Robert Downey Jr. as Tony Stark.

Robert Downey talked about how some people say Inception is the most "ambitious" film ever made and he says bring all of these heroes together for The Avengers would be the most "ambitious" film ever made.

Downey then introduced and confirmed some major news about characters by saying Clinton Barton......is Jeremy Renner and then said "Reprising his role as Bruce Banner....Mark Ruffalo." The last part was funny joke, but sad for Edward Norton.

So, at the end of the day we got to see a teaser for Captain America, some sweet footage from Thor and a teaser trailer that is very teasing because it shows no footage at all of The Avengers. This panel sounds pretty amazing.

SDCC: Jeremy Renner Confirmed for The Avengers

Joss Whedon just confirmed that Jeremy Renner is going to play Hawkeye in The Avengers. This is huge news after months of speculation that Renner would take on the role of Hawkeye.

The way Joss Whedon looks during the interview is the funny part because he looks exhausted and maybe a little tipsy, but I guess you would have to be if you have like 50 panels over the whole weekend.

SDCC: Nathan Fillion is Ant-Man in The Avengers?

Their has been some major confusion caused today at Comic-Con by Joss Whedon. He may have mentioned that Nathan Fillion will portray Ant-Man in The Avengers. That got my hopes up and then I realized it was a joke.

He said "Nathan Fillion is Ant-Man," adding, "unfortunately Ant-Man isn't really in the movie." Marvel confirmed that it was a joke. A mean joke I might add.


I would have believed it because Nathan Fillion is good friends with Whedon and even starred in his hit tv show Firefly. To bad.

SDCC: Cabin in the Woods not 3D anymore?

Joss Whedon and Drew Goddard's creature feature Cabin in the Woods may not be getting the 3D release it was pushed back for over year to convert the film in 3D.

Joss Whedon told the audience at Comic-Con that it was the studio that wanted to convert Cabin in the Woods to 3D because they felt that every Horror movie is being released in 3D. That is clearly a speculation that really didn't pan out.

It's funny that Whedon, himself, believes Cabin in the Woods should stay 2D because certain scenes were shot in very John Carpenter-esque  and are best looking in 2D. He later said "What we're hoping to do is to be the only horror movie coming out that is not in 3D."

Cabin in the Woods hits theaters on January 14, 2011 in 3D or 2D? Who Knows yet?

SDCC: Joss Whedon Confirms He is Directing The Avengers!!

Joss Whedon just confirmed at Comic-Con that he is directing The Avengers! This isn't really a shock, but it is nice to know it is official. 


“It’s not an official thing, I think because Marvel couldn’t afford a press release,” Whedon said. “So can we make that an official thing? I’m directing ‘The Avengers’.”


When Asked about the development on the film so far he said “I am still writing an outline. I’m still in that stage. I will say the thing I love about it, the thing that made me excited to do it, is how counter intuitive it is. These people shouldn’t be in the same room -- and that is the very definition of family.”


Paramount Pictures will distribute the Marvel Studios produced film on May 4, 2012.

Joss Whedon to Direct The Avengers?

Deadline New York is reporting that Marvel Studios is in final negotiations with Joss Whedon to direct the highly-anticipated film The Avengers. The film is set for a May 4, 2012 release.


It will feature an ensemble cast of stars from the marvel films released up until then. The stars include Robert Downey Jr. (Iron Man), Samuel L. Jackson (Nick Fury), Chris Evans (Captain America), Chris Hemmsworth (Thor) and more to be announced.


Joss Whedon's credits include Buffy The Vampire Series, Firefly, Serenity, Angel, Dollhouse, and the anticipated The Cabin In The Woods. So, this could be good or bad.

I personally think it's a good choice because i know he is a fan of the series and will bring good ideas to the board. Although, I also believe the producers should keep an eye open for other great directors.

• Marvel Studios confirmed that Chris Evans is indeed playing Steve Rodgers/Captain America in the highly anticipated The First Avenger: Captain America. Also, It is reported that Sebastian Stan (Gossip Girl) has been cast as Captain America's side-kick Bucky. I like Caps casting, but do they really need Bucky at all. The film hits theaters on July 22, 2011.

• XXX: The Return of Xander Cage is finally getting made and it's in 3D. Rob Cohen has got signed back on to direct after leaving to direct the then and now stalled Medieval. Cohen has returned because of the many things to do with 3D. The film should be released in late 2011 or early 2012.

• Directors Jon Hurwitz and Hayden Schlossberg (Harold & Kumar 1 and 2) will be directing American Pie 4. No cast have resigned yet, but the film will bring back original cast. Also, this means they won't be directing A Very Harold & Kumar Christmas. This is good and bad depends on how you look at it.

• Director/creator Joss Whedon (Buffy: The Vampire Slayer) is rumored to be on the "short list" to direct Marvel's The Avengers. The only other director on the list is Louis Leterrier (Clash of the Titans, The Incredible Hulk) and has a release date of May 4, 2012.

• The beloved classic 1938 book Mr. Popper's Penguins may get a big screen adaptation with Ben Stiller and director Noah Baumbach in-talks to star and direct receptively.

• Look Who's Talking is getting remade. I can't agree if it should be remade or not, but I love the original. No Director or writers have been hired yet.

• Also, in talking baby news, the taking E*Trade baby is getting his own movie. I feel Hollywood is going downhill. The film is being written by Katie Dippold (MadTv).

• Hopefully third time is the charm for Warner Bros. because they moved the release date of The Losers once again to April 23rd. The original release date was April 9th then moved to June 4th. Warner Bros. must be feeling scared for the success of this adaptation.

• The Twilight Saga: Eclipse will have its first trailer released in March; in theaters attached to Remember Me starring Twilight star Robert Pattinson. So, all of you Twilight fans can freakout now and go make this movie huge just to see a short trailer.

• Acclaimed director James Cameron (Avatar, The Terminator) is consulting Marc Webb with the production of the spider-man reboot. He says it's not about characters or direction, but use of his revolutionary 3D technology Cameron used for Avatar. This could end up being awesome.

• The L.A. Times is reporting that Universal Pictures is rebooting the American Pie series for theatrical release. Universal has declined to comment on the reports at the moment, this most likely means it's true. Also, they are reporting that some of the original cast is interested in returning. I can't wait to see more on this later.

• Creator Joss Whedon (Buffy: The Vampire Slayer, Firefly) and Morgan Spurlock (Super-Size Me) are rumored to be working together on a Comic-Con based documentary around the fan culture at the huge event. They are looking for people to follow for 3 months leading up to Con and during it. This could be interesting because Super-Size Me made me never want to eat McDonalds again. I have been McD-free for about 10 years and the film gave strength go on. Comic-Con could be good this year, although last year was a blast. 

• NBC is looking to resurrect Steven Spielberg's supernatural series Nine Lives. The series was originally written for SyFy about 3 years ago, but they never did anything with it. NBC is rewriting some aspects of it to appeal to a broader audience. I would watch this show just because Steven Spielberg created it. Do the 12 hour mini-series NBC. Do it

This is Saturday time and it's time for your Daily Movie News

* The "Paranormal Activity" Demand It! website has finally made it to the magic number of 1 million Demand its. Paramount Pictures has came out and said they will release it in about 1,000 more theaters on October 16th. The Release of it will Compete with the yearly film series "Saw VI" and the remake" The Stepfather". The great interest in "Paranormal Activity" will most likely make it a great weekend for the Horror Movie genre.

* Neil Marshall(The Descent, Doomsday) is directing Burst 3D for Lionsgate and Ghost House Pictures. The film is about a group of friends held up in a lodge during a winter storm. Stuff goes wrong, they start to spontaneously combust one by one.

* Joss Whedon's highly anticipated "Cabin in the Woods" got pushed back from February 5th 2010 to January 14th 2011. The most likely reason is to get more mainstream hype and to get remastered in 3D after early screenings were greatly positive.
