Three New MMA Screenshots

EA's MMA is already looking visually better than THQ's UFC Undisputed 2010, but can they nail down a nice enough gameplay experience that is as easy and user friendly as UFC Undisputed. Developer's of MMA say that they will be using similar control scheme to that of Fight Night Round 4, using the right analog stick to throw a punch or kick. I'm not really a fan of that kind of controls, but I'll give it a try. EA's MMA is definitely going to give UFC Undisputed 2010 a run for its money. Since this is developed by EA, it's going to be realistic as possible. You can tell just by how life-like these screens are. Here, check em' out below.

The Book of Eli Review

If you are a fan of the The Road Warrior or any other post-apocalyptic movie, then you might want to see this movie

The Book of Eli is directed by the Hughes Brothers (Menace II Society) and starring Denzel Washington (Training Day), Gary Oldman (The Dark Knight), Mila Kunis (That 70s Show), and Ray Stevenson (Punisher:Warzone). Released January 15, 2010

The Book of Eli comes at a time when post-apocalyptic movies are making a comeback with 2012 and The Road released in recent months. However, Eli doesn't disappoint the average action movie fan, because it is great action, good story, and amazing actors.

Washington is the perfect actor to portray a older man that is a nice person at heart, but having to do terrible things in a split-second. You love his character from the very beginning to the surprising end. He battles himself to just mind his own business, but he knows he has to do the greater good and help out others in need.

For the supporting cast, it's simply superb with a fantastic actor, Gary Oldman, as the main villain. His character is a desperate man trying to locate the "book" that he would use for his own gain. Also, Ray Stevenson plays Oldman's right-hand man, who is likable and smart with his actions until later in the film. And, Mila Kunis plays the daughter of Oldman's "woman", and a sidekick/protege figure to Washington as the film progresses. Overall, the supporting cast is chosen perfectly.

The Hughes Brothers cinematography and camera shots are amazing. They have some great colorization that shows a dark world and gives a dreary feeling throughout the movie. And the action scenes sold me from the first fight to the last. They really include you into action with great close-ups and slow-motion shots. They were born to direct action films. Best part is that there is 2 of them.

The story is the part that made me want to see two times. It is kind of predictable with the characters moral choices and fight scenes. Although, not all the time. I will say the ending had a WTF moment. The information you gain from the ending has a Six Sense feel to it. No, he isn't dead or he can see dead people. It will most likely make you go "are you serious". I wanted to see it again to notice the small things that lead to the discovery at the end. You will not see it coming I guarantee it.

I give The Book of Eli a very strong rating of 88 out of 100.

The End Begins On March 16th

After years of waiting, God of War III finally has a release date. Kratos's epic journey will continue on March 16th, when God of War III hits shelves everywhere. It's been recently announced that GOWIII will conclude the trilogy, but won't put an end to the franchise. Thank the Gods; you can never put an end to God of War. Definitely pick this game up so you can finally reveal the epic conclusion as to why the Gods are myths and what will become of Kratos. You still have a month and a half to pre-order your Ultimate Edition to be guaranteed a copy. Let's just hope that God of War III isn't as good as it looks, but better. I can't wait for Tuesday the 16th to get here so I can skip school to play this masterpiece. Like they say, "In the end, there will be only chaos."

Avatar Sinks Titanic

James Cameron's Avatar has officially passed Cameron's last film Titanic to become the Highest Grossing Film of All-Time. That is a major record-breaker because the record has been standing for over 12 years.
James Cameron must feel a sense of accomplishment because he has two of the Highest Grossing Films of All-Time with one still earning more. The Titanic had a total box-office of $1,843,201,268 and Avatar has passed that with $1,858,866,889. Avatar is history in the making for movies and technology.
Avatar still has many weeks left in theaters to gross more. The only other major record it has to break is Highest Grossing Film Domestically because Titanic still hold that record (for now) with $600,788,188 and Avatar after just 39 days has passed $554,981,691. I will say it, Avatar will beat that record and then some.

I cant wait to see what it will do when released on Home Video.

Daily Movie News

Daily Movie News for Tuesday, January 26, 2010.

  • Actor Sam Worthington is being considered to play the legendary vampire Dracula in Universal's new film Dracula: Year Zero. Yes, I said it, Year Zero. That a horrible title for a cool synopsis. The plot is a period piece set in Transylvania in during the reign of Vlad the Impaler. Also, has a reported budget of over $100 million and director Alex Proyas (The Crow) is in talks to direct. Can't wait to see how this gets panned out.

  • Director Kevin Greutert (Saw VI) was hired by Paramount to direct Paranormal Activity 2, which would compete against Saw VII on October 22, 2010. Lionsgate decided to be smart and A-Holes at same time and dismiss Saw V director David Hackl  from Saw VII and use Greutert's contract to keep him. This just is a way to delay Paramount's release date for Paranormal Activity 2, so this means Saw would make more money.

  • Heat Vision is reporting that Clash of the Titans and the last two Harry Potter movies will be released to 3D. Warner Bros. hasn't commented on the news, but Clash of the Titans was moved back a week to April 2nd. Comment by Warner is most likely coming at end of week for Clash and Harry Potter to follow.

  • Director Michael Bay has been scouting locations for Transformers 3 in Chicago, Detroit, and Washington D.C. And he says the script is turning out way different then the last two films. Hopefully, that means more time spent on story, just a hope.

  • 30-year-old actor Jason Momoa (Stargate Atlantis) has been cast as Conan in Marcus Nispel's reinvention of Robert E. Howard's Conan. Also, an offer has been given to Mickey Rourke to play his father Corin. This could be intresting.

Avatar Passes The Dark Knight

According to early reports, James Cameron's Avatar has passed Christopher Nolan's 2008 blockbuster The Dark Knight as the second highest grossing movie domestically. The Dark Knight had a total earning of $533 million in theaters and Avatar as just passed $553 million and still going. Also, Avatar's $36 million in its 6th weekend also set a record for a film's gross in it's 6th week of release. Avatar seems unstoppable, for now. Next up for major record breaking is beating James Cameron's last film Titanic. Titanic has had the record of highest grossing film of all-time for over 10 years and it seems reasonable that the director's other film should beat it. Look for Avatar to beat Titanic's $600.8 million sometime next month. Hollywood must really want to get their hands on James Cameron for future use. Cameron is king of the world (pun intended) of box office success.

I will update weekend box office later or tomorrow with international box office to see if cameron has passed Titanic as the highest grossing film globally (which it has most likely done)

The Trailer of The Week is the dark comedy Cyrus. The film is written and directed by Jay Duplass and Mark Duplass. Starring John C. Reilly (Step-Brothers), Jonah Hill (Superbad), Marisa Tomei (The Wrestler), and Catherine Keener (The 40-year-old Virgin). The trailer is pretty funny and can't wait to see it.

With John's social life at a standstill and his ex-wife about to get remarried, a down on his luck divorcee finally meets the woman of his dreams, only to discover she has another man in her life – her son. It's a insightful and funny look at love and family in contemporary Los Angeles.

It's Official! Director Marc Webb Helming Spider-Man Reboot

Director Marc Webb will be directing the surprise reboot of the Spider-Man franchise. Webb has previously directed numerous music videos for a variety of stars over the years. Also, his first feature film (500) Days of Summer was released in 2009 to positive reviews.

Webb will work closely with producers Avi Arad and Laura Ziskin on the project through Pre-production. Based on a script by James Vanderbilt, and production will start later this year. Spider-Man co-creator Stan Lee said "I am excited that Sony has chosen a director with real penchant and understanding for the character. This is a brave, bold direction for the franchise, and I can't wait to see what marc comes up with next." So, if Stan Lee likes him, I guess I'll give him a chance.

Report show that they will make it on a budget of $80 million and cast relatively unknowns. Also, the series will not use the origin stories from the 60's; which, the Raimi directed films used, but rather use the Ultimate Spider-Man take to the film. This is just speculation are not proven.

Daybreakers Review

Daybreakers isn't your vampire "chick-flick", but a dark, gritty and gory action ride to the end.

Directed and written by Peter and Michael Spierig (Undead) and starring Ethan Hawke (Training Day), Sam Neil (Jurassic Park), Willem Dafoe (Spider-Man), and Isabel Lucas (Transformers 2). Released January 8th, 2010.

I went into the movie thinking it was going to your average horror movie, but I was pleasantly surprised about halfway through it. The film was written to be a metaphor on how man is wasting it's natural resources, but just replaces man with vampires and resources with man. This was intriguing from the start. I was tired of just hearing about Twilight type movies and glad to see a film that actually has meaning. From the start I absolutely loved the cold, blue and gray color scheme, and how it added blandness to the vampires and the world. The cool thing was the little things from the start that reflect how a vampire and actually live in today's society. For example, the vampires have a daylight driving system for the cars, and a "subwalk" to travel during the daylight hours. I have to give a hand to the brothers for adding these little things that actually make a big difference. As for the main plot, it was fairly predictable throughout with some nice surprises. The cinematography was like The Matrix with the cold colors, which can be taken good or bad. So, if you like vampires in a movie the way they were intended and tired of Twilight, then see this movie.

I give this film an 82 out of 100. Check it out.

Cowboys and Aliens Casting Change

The news that Robert Downey Jr. was leaving the Jon Favreau-directed movie Cowboys & Aliens made the studio not waste anytime on casting because Bond himself, Daniel Craig is stepping in Downey's place. The news isn't official yet, but he is in talks with the studios to star. Craig is probably the best replacement for Downey, but will he have a connection with Favreau, who is good friends with Downey. Only time will tell.

Close To 4 Million PS3's Sold Over Christmas

Earlier today, at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, CEO of SCE Kaz Hirai revealed some pretty impressive console sales numbers for the Playstation 3 over this holiday season.

According to Sony, 3.8 million PS3's were sold worldwide from the end of November to the new year, with 1.7 million being in the US alone. The company says that it's a 76% increase in sales from 2008's holiday season figures.

According to VGChartz, Sony is slowly catching up to Microsoft in hardware sales. The PS3 has now sold 31 million consoles while the Xbox 360 has sold 36 million. That's really good for Sony considering the fact that the Xbox 360 was released 18 months before the playstation 3. To check out other hardware sales or even software sales, take a look at http://www.vgchartz.com/.

Daily Movie News

Daily Movie News for Wednesday January 6th, 2010.

  • Avatar seems to be unstoppable; after just 17 days the epic 3D film has made about $1.2 billion worldwide beating The Dark Knight's $1 billion as the fastest to $1 billion. Also, Avatar should beat Transformers 2 as the highest grossing film of 2009.

  • Director Sam Mendes (American Beauty, Road To Perdition) is in negotiations to direct Bond 23, which is the next film in the long running British spy series. No plot details have been released at the moment. Daniel Craig is set to return to his role as James Bond. The film's production is being fast-tracked to begin this June for a 2011 release.

  • Production Weekly is reporting that The Hobbit will begin shooting this June in New Zealand. The film will be cut into two full films. The two installments are expected to be released in December 2011 and December 2012. No news on how the MGM bankruptcy problems are going to affect the production.

  • Variety is reporting that the rumors were true and the Spider-Man 4 production has been postponed for time to work with the script. So, the May 5th, 2011 release date seems unlikely at the moment.

  • Toshiba and RealD are collaborating to bring 3D into homes in 2010. Also, Samsung, DreamWorks Animation and Technicolor are doing the same thing. This competition can be a big battle for best 3D at home.

  • Actor James Franco (Spider-Man films) will star in 127 hours. The film will focus on the true story of Aron Ralston , whose right forearm got pinned under a boulder for nearly 5 days. He used a blunt knife to cut it off and scale down a 65 foot cliff.
