Random Movie Review: Black Christmas

My special Halloween Movie Review is Black Christmas. I am not talking about the 2006 remake, but the 1974 original. The film is considered by some the inventor of the modern day slasher movie and is given high praise from most of the horror community. It is directed by Bob Clark (A Christmas Story) and stars Margot Kidder (Superman) and Olivia Hussey (Romeo and Juliet). The plot is about a sorority house that is terrorized by a person making frighting phone calls and sorority sisters going missing and murdered over the holiday break. The film from the start is pretty creepy with how the killer got in the house to the first kill. The plastic bag scene is great even by todays standards just look at the poster. The phone calls are kinda funny at first in the sexual nature then frighting later in the movie. The way you see the film through the killers eyes is a staple in horror film history. The point-of-view is later used in Halloween and Friday The 13th. The thing I love most about the film is the eerie score by Carl Zitter. It added so much to the feel of the film as a whole. Some might think it is stupid at would never happen, although it is partly inspired by real events that happened in Montreal, Quebec around Christmas time. The aged of the film might make it somewhat hard for todays teens to watch it without getting a little bored. For diehard horror fans like me it is a must watch. If you like Halloween and Friday The 13th then you will want to watch this low budget slasher film. I give this film a 78 out of 100.

Netflix Coming To Playstation 3. UPDATE!!!!

Sometime next month, all Playstation 3 owners, who are also Netflix users will be able to instantly stream movies and TV shows directly to their PS3 free of charge. After months of speculation that Netflix would be on a console other than the Xbox 360, it finally will be. At first, PS3 users will have to have a free, Netflix-provided, Blu-ray disc that allows you to browse movies and TV shows. We should expect that Sony and Netflix are working together to create a firmware update or application that will take care of the Blu-ray disc problem. The addition of Netflix will eventually allow users to browse and update the "Watch Instantly" queues from the XMB. To get a head start on the PS3 Netflix experience go to http://www.netflix.com/ps3.

UPDATE!!! Netflix reps say an "embedded solution" will be available "late next year," presumably after Microsoft's exclusive arrangement with Netflix expires.

PS3 Is Top Console In September

Last month in September, all the consoles had pretty good NPD numbers, but nothing came close to the Nintendo DS. When it comes to consoles, there is a bit of a shock. The Sony Playstation 3 was the top selling console for the first time since it's debut in 2006. The PS3's recent sales increase is likely due to it's price drop, advertisement, and new releases. The Wii and Xbox 360 also most likely received their sales from their recent price drops. Check out the sales below.

Nintendo DS: 524,200 SOLD
Playstation 3: 491,800 SOLD
Wii: 463,800 SOLD
Xbox 360: 352,600 SOLD

Paranormal Activity Review

Paranormal Activity is a Mockumentary-Horror film, similar to The Blair Witch Project and the TV show Ghost Hunters. This is a low budget film of only around $11,000 by first time director Oren Peli. Filmed in one week, with two nobody actors, Katie Featherston and Micah Sloat. I went into this movie thinking it would be a knockoff of The Blair Witch Project and would be stupid. I was really wrong. This film starts out a little slow for most movie goers, but gets to the good stuff pretty fast. We see them documenting their daily life with an HD camera trying to catch proof that there is paranormal activity in their home. They place the camera on a tripod in their bedroom to see what goes on while the two are sleeping. The first few nights nothing really happens, except noise and sound of walking. Then, after that, it seems like they made the "Entity" mad. Every night gets worse and makes the audience get really jumpy. The movie ending does not let you down. I have heard there is multiple endings and the one in theaters was suggested by Acclaimed Director, Steven Spielberg. The story goes, Steven watched this movie and stopped halfway through it because it scared him. I love the ending also. There is so many things I love about this film and so few things I don't like. I love that you never see the "Entity" through out the whole film. I love how they didn't film it traditional style or all shaky cam like other Horror-mockumentaries. They film it like Ghost Hunters. This adds to the suspense of the film in whole. The acting is astounding for "nobody" actors. Katie is great and believable at being scarred and that added to me getting scarred. Also, Micah is great at being the smart ass, stubborn boyfriend to Katie. He mostly thinks of it as a joke for awhile. He then becomes a loving boyfriend that wants to help Katie and becomes a man, not an immature person. The effects in this film are practical, yet very effective. The practical effects are probably the scariest thing in the film. The thing I love most about the movie is how it leaves the things going on to your imagination. I walked out of the theater a little unnerved and thinking how will I sleep tonight. This is a great movie to see in theaters with a crowd, because it is funny to see how people react to it. I can't wait to watch this film in my room, alone one night and get scared out of my mind. The hype around this movie wasn't lying, it is one of the most, if not the most scary movie I have ever seen. I love this movie so much, I give it a 95 out of 100.

Uncharted 2 Review

I just finished playing Uncharted 2: Among Thieves and I'm speechless. This is easily the most beautiful game ever made. The graphics are just so stunning you can't put down the controller. The game really does look like it's like a movie. The character models look magnificent and stunning. The voice acting is great. Funny too. I have to say I like Among Thieves much better than Drake's Fortune. It has the mainly the same gameplay as the first, but with one little feature.... stealth gameplay. I love a game that can incorporate stealth and action together into one game. There wasn't a whole lot of stealth, but there was a sufficient amount to keep me playing. The climbing in this game is much better than Drake's Fortune. The animations are much smoother and look much better. I really like how Naughty Dog improved the gun damage realism a lot. Enemies die a lot easier without taking as much hits. That was a major flaw from the first game. When it comes to the story I like the story much better, because it takes you all over Europe and Asia, rather than just the two islands from the first game. There is one sequence where you are on a train and you have to move closer to the front car that I really like. The train is actually moving instead of just the background moving. It's a really fun time. Once you beat the game you can go back for a another playthrough and with all the money earned the first time around, you can buy guns and skins. There is a really funny skin you can buy call Doughnut Drake that makes Drake really fat with a deep voice. It's my favorite. There was one thing about the game that I don't care for much and that's the multi-player. Ya, it's a unique experience with climbing Incorporated into maps, but it just doesn't have the fun factor that other games like Call of Duty have. Overall, Uncharted 2: Among Thieves is a great experience and it's a definite buy for any Playstation 3 owner or a fan of the Drake's Fortune. I give Among Thieves a 93 of 100.

Mass Effect Coming To PS3? UPDATE!!

While at a gaming event in Poland, Bioware's Jay Watamaniuk announce that the Playstation 3 could be a possible target for Mass Effect 2.

During the presentation, Watamaniuk mentioned three platforms that Mass Effect 2 is targeted at. They were Xbox 360, PC and "probably PS3".

Currently Mass Effect 2 is listed as for Xbox 360 and PC only, but earlier this week, the game popped up on website for PS3 also, but EA said it was a mistake.

So what do you think, was Watamaniuk misspoken or should Playstation 3 owners start getting ready for a Mass Effect game.

UPDATE!! This is false.

New 250 GB PS3 Console Hits November 3rd

Sony has just announced that they are releasing a new 250 GB PS3 Slim on November 3rd for $349.99.

Sounds like a pretty good deal to me, it's only $50 more for a 250 GB hard drive. Thats more double the previous size. It may sound a bit too much, but you never know when you'll need it. Seeya next time.

Naughty Dog Talks Cross-Game Chat

Earlier this month there was talk about cross-game chat coming to the PS3 in the next firmware update 3.10. Now, a comment made by ReklissAbandon, a Naughty Dog staff member, was left in a forum post about Uncharted 2 online communication. He said.....

"I think they wanted people to have fun and enjoy the show since all dead players can talk to each other no matter what team you are on. But I will suggest it anyway. Not to mention that the next PS3 firmware update is going to allow cross game chat. So if players use that instead of in game communication then they would also be able to communicate enemies positions.”

Sony once again made their famous response to questions like these,“We haven’t made any announcements on upcoming firmware and don’t comment on rumor or speculation.”

Daily Movie News

Its Friday Time for your Daily Movie News

First it has been a few days since our last post. We have been busy with school, sickness and laziness.

* Will Ferrell (Step Brothers, Talladega Nights) is set to star in an Independent film "Every Thing Must Go". The plot is about a man (Ferrell) who loses his job and gets locked out of his house by his wife. She puts all his belongings on the front lawn, and he spends the next four days trying to sell them. This will be directorial debut of director Dan Rush and he also wrote the script.

* Director Sam Raimi has acknowledged the faults in Spider-Man 3. He will not mess up Spider-Man 4 with those faults and go back to the basics as they were in the first and second films.

* Warner Bros. Pictures have Officially pulled the production of the Green Lantern film starring Ryan Reynolds from Australia. It is rumored that production will move to either Mexico or Canada. It is scheduled for release on June 17, 2011.

* Director Wes Craven tweeted "I had dinner with KW (Kevin Williams) last night, and the script sounds fantastic!". Craven is talking about the script for "Scream 4" which will start a new trilogy. Current stars signed on to return are Neve Campbell, David Arquette and Courtney Cox Arquette. Craven has said he hasn't signed on but with a good script he would most likely do it.

* Universal Pictures' has cast Chris Messina to star in "Devil" a horror-thriller based on an M. Night  Shyamalan story to be directed by John Erick Dowdle and Drew Dowdle. Messina will play the lead role of Bowden, a sobered-up homicide detective. That is the only plot details released at the time. Filming should begin on October 26 in Toronto.

That is it for now, more to come later

Daily Movie News

Its Tuesday time for Daily Movie News

* Director D.J. Caruso (Eagle Eye, Disturbia) and Chris Pine (Star Trek) are targeted by Paramount Pictures to make "The Art of Making Money" next year. Pine would play Art Williams, the alias for a Chicago man who rose from petty thief to master counterfeiter. Based on the book by same title.

* J.J. Abrams' Company Bad Robot and Paramount will team up on a untitled movie by screenwriters Aline Brosh McKenna (The Devil Wears Prada) and Simon Kinberg (X-Men: The Last Stand). J.J. will not reveal the plot but said the pitch got them Salivating. So, it sounds like one to keep an eye on.

* Director Roland Emmerich (Indepedence Day, Stargate) has said he would like to make a sequel to ID4 with Will Smith. There is a script turned into FOX but FOX has it in limbo. Also, Roland said he would like to make Stargate into a trilogy as he had envisioned.

* Director Sam Raimi (Spider-Man 1,2,3) has said he likes The Lizard as a villian but hasn't said about him being in Spider-Man 4. He also said he isn't really familiar with the character Carnage. So it looks like The Lizard is the most likely villian for Spider-Man 4.

* Director Brian Singer (X-Men, Superman Returns) has said he wants to get back into the X-Men franchise. He has been talking with FOX about doing it.

Couples Retreat Review

Couples Retreat is a comedy about four couples that go on a retreat for their marriage problems. The film is directed by Peter Billingsley (Ralphie, A Christmas Story). The cast is star studded with many comedic figures as couples like Vince Vaughn (Wedding Crashers) and Malin Akerman (Watchmen), Jason Bateman (Juno) and Kristen Bell (Forgetting Sarah Marshall), Jon Favreau (Iron Man) and Kristin Davis (Sex and the City), Faizon Love (Elf) and Kali Hawk (-). Even, with the great cast the film is funny, but not as funny as it could have been. There is pretty funny scenes with Jon, Vince and Faizon, but not as much as you would expect from Jason. The female cast parts are basically boring, except for Kristin Davis and Kali Hawk. Malin and Kristin Bell are your normal wives that just go with the flow and don't do anything memorable. Jean Reno is funny(Looking) in a speedo and thats about it. Also, the therapists are really funny with Ken Jeong (The Hangover) and John Higgins (Fred Claus). I just know with this cast it could have been so much better in every way, except in the casting department. Vince and Jon should have spent less time writing their parts and more on everyone else's. The story and opportunity for so many things was there, but felt like any other marriage comedy. So, this movie is not terrible, but not a memorable comedy. I give this film 73 out of 100.

RESISTANCE 3

This billboard was found down in Shreveport, La on what people speculate as the set of the upcoming movie called Battle: Los Angeles which is produced by Sony's Columbia Pictures. Battle: Los Angeles is set for release in 2011, which suggests that the next Resistance title is also going to be released in 2011. If you look closely at the Resistance logo, you will notice that in the a of Resistance, you can see the Statue of Liberty. This most likely means that the Chimera's next target is New York City.

Daily Movie News

This is Saturday time and it's time for your Daily Movie News

* The "Paranormal Activity" Demand It! website has finally made it to the magic number of 1 million Demand its. Paramount Pictures has came out and said they will release it in about 1,000 more theaters on October 16th. The Release of it will Compete with the yearly film series "Saw VI" and the remake" The Stepfather". The great interest in "Paranormal Activity" will most likely make it a great weekend for the Horror Movie genre.

* Neil Marshall(The Descent, Doomsday) is directing Burst 3D for Lionsgate and Ghost House Pictures. The film is about a group of friends held up in a lodge during a winter storm. Stuff goes wrong, they start to spontaneously combust one by one.

* Joss Whedon's highly anticipated "Cabin in the Woods" got pushed back from February 5th 2010 to January 14th 2011. The most likely reason is to get more mainstream hype and to get remastered in 3D after early screenings were greatly positive.

Year One Review

Year One is a comedy set in biblical times in the since of Mel Brooks "History of the World, Part I". It stars Jack Black( The School of Rock, Tropic Thunder, and Tenacious D) and Michael Cera( Superbad, Juno, and Nick and Nora). The film makes a lot of jokes to biblical things that can be hard to get if not familiar with them, which makes it hard to think its funny. The main comedy in the film is physical humor( Jack licks dung and Michael urinates on his own head) and you may think it is funny or gross. The funniest thing I like about the movie is the supporting cast from start to end. Some of the supporting cast are Vinnie Jones, Bill Hader, David Cross, Hank Azaria, Christopher Mintz-Plasse, Paul Rudd and many more. I would have a hard time keep watching it without seeing the Supporting cast to make me guessing who's next. Jack uses his facial features as his main source of being funny and Michael uses his Awkwardness for his, but it works pretty good together. Overall, if you seen this in Theaters I am sorry for you, but maybe watch it on TV or rent for $1. I give it 64 out of 100

Surrogates Review

Surrogates is the latest robot movie to be released. I am a fan of the director Jonathan Mostow who directed the WWII film "U-571" and robot film "The Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines". Also it stars the great Bruce Willis( Die Hard Tetralogy(4), and Sin City) and many more. The Surrogates is film that tries to be smart as a thriller and mystery but fails in the end. The big mystery is somewhat easy to figure out but still has some okay twist. I give praise to the special effects and how they use it. They make people look real but they look to perfect( Bruce Willis has a bad Wig). The real people controlling them look more normal and not even movie star good( Bruce Willis is Bald). I would like to think the money went into great effects and not as much into the writing. Overall, for Comic book movies this doesn't do them good. I recommend to not see it in theater, but rent or wait to go on television. I give it a 69 out of 100.

Zombie Apocalypse

I recently downloaded the demo for Zombie Apocalypse and I think it's awesome. It's a fun shoot em' up that puts you in the middle of a zombie outbreak. I think the character models are funny because they all sort of resemble characters from zombie movies. Zombie Apocalypse is a fun game to play by yourself, but it definitely is more fun to play with friends. I love a good zombie game and this one is in my top 10. My overall rating is 81 of 100.

Dethalbum II Review

If you're a fan of Dethklok then you're gonna love Dethalbum II. It has the same Dethklok sound that everyone loves and wants more of. I personally enjoyed every song on this album and the music is just so great that it just pulls you in and makes you want more. If you're really a fan of Dethklok and you're thinking of purchasing Dethalbum II, then I recommend you go for the Deluxe Editon. It comes with the regular CD, plus a DVD with 52 minutes of never-before-released music videos from the 2008 Dethklok tour. I know you'll enjoy Dethalbum II, so check it out. I give Dethalbum II a 90 of 100.

Random Movie Review: Kuffs

This is something new I thought about doing. Everyday I will review a movie or movies from any genre and year. My point of doing so is to show you( my reader) a movie you maybe heard of and wanted to see or never heard of in your life. Reviews may be on the positive or negative side to show you if you should watch it or not.
The first to be reviewed is the 1992 comedy film Kuffs starring Christian Slater. This film should not be taken as a serious action crime film but as a comedy with a lot of action. Christian Slater does a great job playing a 21-year-old high school dropout, who takes over his dead brothers civilian police force. The things I love about the movie is how Christian breaks the fourth wall to talks to you the person in the audience and it flows very well with story. Another thing I love about this film is its well written characters and plot. Kuffs has very funny one liners and serious action at same time, which is hard to do. Also the soundtrack is spectacular. The faults lay in the action part of the film, they are not as grand as some would want for a cop film. But don't base the judgement to see it on the action part, which I believe is still very good but not as good as most other action/comedy films. If you are looking for a Funny movie with some action, then you may want to see Kuffs for a family movie night or just to watch it to get some laughs. My rating is 79 out of 100.

Batman: Arkham Asylum Review

Batman: Arkham Asylum is the best comic book, superhero game I've ever played. It brilliantly mixes action gameplay with stealth gameplay. Arkham Asylum puts you in the shoes of the greatest detective of all time, Batman, in a story that keeps you on your toes and wanting more. The synopsis of the story is that The Joker traps you in Arkham Asylum where you have to battle through his goons and some of the villains to get to the Joker. The story is excellently written by Paul Dini, the great writer from Batman the animated series. The stealth gameplay is key to survival in Arkham Asylum. In some scenarios the goons won't have weapons, but in most of them they are armed and you have to think of ways to take them out without the others seeing you. The hand to hand combat is extremely smooth and is flows beautifully. One thing I really enjoyed doing is gliding around, that was really fun to me. Things I didn't like was that the boss battles were exceptionally easy, even on hard difficulties. Another thing I didn't like was that there was a detective vision you can use to find secrets and use to follow clues. I didn't like it because you will use it constantly and probably just keep it on the whole game. There really wasn't a point to having a regular view if you aren't going to use it. Overall this is an amazing game and I think anyone who enjoys a good game with a good story should check it out. I give Batman: Arkham Asylum gets a 91 of 100

Life Starts Now

Life Starts Now is the newest album from Three Days Grace, released on September 22. I personally think this album just isn't as great as One-X or their self entitled album Three Days Grace. I myself like "Break", "World So Cold", "Last To Know", "Lost In You", "The Good Life", and "Life Starts Now". The rest of the CD isn't so great, they just don't have the catchy sound as previous albums. My overall rating for Life Starts Now is a 71 of 100.

Infamous Review

Infamous is a third person action game about the story of Cole McGrath, who is caught in an explosion in Empire City which gave him the power to manipulate electricity. Infamous is a good fun game that anyone can enjoy. What I like about it is the fact that you can climb nearly every structure and it runs very smoothly when in motion, but when climbing, the animations can be a bit sketchy and are a little off when it comes to realistic movements. There is a karma system where you can make good or bad choices depending on which moral path you decide to take. Both good and bad karma offer different versions of the same powers, but the evil powers offer a lot more satisfaction if you are looking for chaos and destruction. Empire city is beautifully built and looks realistic in the architecture and everything is proportional. What I don't like about Infamous is the unskippable cutscenes and the repetitive gameplay. Many of the side mission are the same as others, with just a few that are different. Once you've played the game through and decide to go back for a second playthrough, you aren't allowed to skip the cutscenes, although they are in a cool comic book style, they can be annoying. Overall I enjoyed this game and I recommend it to anyone who wants to be entertained. I give Infamous a 81 of 100.

Zombieland Review

Zombieland is a great movie by putting horror and comedy together and making it work really well. Many movies try to do this, but not as well or as successful. Zombieland had a budget of only 23 Million and it brought in 25 million on opening weekend. The cast had good onscreen chemistry being a wide variety of actors. This has been Woody's first time being #1 at the box office as a main role in many years. This will introduce Jesse Eisenberg to a wider audience since his last film Adventureland wasn't widely accepted by the general audience. Overall I love this film, not just because I like zombie films, but because Ruben Fleischer did an amazing job for his first time directing a studio film. It also has a very funny, unexpected cameo in it. I give Zombieland an 89 of 100 because it an all around fun film for any fan of zombie comedies.
