PS3 Firmware Update 3.41

The next update for the Playstation 3 is already out and it's kind of a snore.  Update v3.41 adds the "You May Like" feature on the Playstation Store.  This new feature adds a "recommendations" section for games and videos.  On certain items, you may see the "You May Like" section on the right hand side of the screen.  This section shows other content that may be similar or based on other purchases by other Playstation Network users.

"You May Like" is a good way to find similar games that may be to your liking or to find that one game that you've been looking for.  It is said that the feature will go live by the end of July.

I have downloaded v3.41, but I haven't seen the "You May Like" section yet, but I guess I'll have to wait until the end of july.

Playstation Plus Details

Looks like the rumors were true and Sony will be offering a premium subscription plan for the Playstation Network.  This "premium" service will not replace the already free service, but give subscribers an enhanced experience that will include exclusive content such as demos, themes, multiplayer content, and free Playstation Network games for only $49.99 a year.

Jack Tretton also announced that there will be a 3 month subscription for only $17.99.  That's pretty good considering that subscribers are said to get "hundreds of dollars" in free content and discounts on the Playstation Store.

Tretton said that the first three months of the service will come free for a limited time to all subscribers.

Playstation Plus premium service sounds like a great deal a must have for any Playstation Network fanatic.  I'll be checking it out as soon as it launches and I'll update you with the details and feedback.

Sony Considering PSN Subscriptions

A survey from IPSOS Online Situation reveals that Sony is considering premium subscription plans for Playstation Network Users. These plans show potential prices and premium services.

The survey begins with this text:
Sony is considering offering a premium PlayStation Network subscription in the future. The subscription offering would provide new premium features you could choose to pay for and are in addition to the features currently available for free such as access to online multiplayer gaming (current features would remain free).

Most of these services are pretty interesting, but some are just a little "repugnant", such as Trophy Alerts, Token Waggering, Member Demo of Full Games, and Member Only In-Game Content. Services like Cross-Game Voice Chat Access, Facebook Connectivity, Online Music Service, Online Music Video survice, and Netflix Access Without A Disc should be free and would be just "repugnant" to pay for them.

Here is a full list of all the subscription options and services.

I'll post some more on this later when I hear more about it.
