Black Friday Console Numbers

This last Black Friday was a very successful day for Sony, Microsoft, and Nintendo. Sony really profited with the PS3 reaching an all time weekly high sales of 440,000 units. The playstation 3 has been recieving a enormous sales increases since it's price drop in Septemeber. According to Microsoft's Director of Product Managment for the Xbox 360 and Xbox Live, they just had their biggest sales week of the year. He said that last weeks numbers were more than 2x the previous week sales. Nintendo particularily outdid Sony and Microsoft with over 1.5 million Wiis and DSs sold. The Wii alone had sold 550,000 consoles and the DS sold over 1 million devices. The Wii's numbers aren't as impressive as last years 800,000 sold during the same period. Being the cheapest console on the market, you can expect to see alot more Wii sales.

Modern Warfare 2 Review

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 is the highly anticipated sequel to one of the most successful FPS of all time, Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare. MW2 starts off 5 years after the events of the first game. You begin the game as PFC Joseph Allen of the U.S. Army Rangers where you are stationed in Afghanistan, then later go deep undercover as a Russian for the CIA. Then You play as Private James Ramirez, a member of 1st Battalion 75th Ranger Regiment, who has to defend the East Coast of the U.S. against the Russion invasion. You mainly play as character as Sergeant Gary "Roach" Sanderson of the Task Force 141. Roach is under the command of a familiar face from MW1, Soap McTavish. He has been promoted to captain of the SAS and commands most of the operations in the games. Task Force 141 is in pursuit of Vladimir Makarov, the games main antagonist.

The single player campaign of Modern Warfare 2 may be slightly short, but it is surely packed with a lot of action, suspense, and tragedy. Some scenes can touch a lot of emotions such as the death of friends and betrayal and others can fill you with anger. The overall campaign is not quite as good as the first but its still worth while playing.

There is also a cooperative mode called Special ops, where players must complete challenging missions with a certain objective. The objectives range from killing a certain amount of enemies, to killing tougher enemies with only an explosive weapon, to beating time trials. These Spec Ops can be fun playing alone, but can be really entertaining while playing with a friend. If you plan on buying or renting MW2 you should definitely check it out.

The best part of Modern Warfare 2 is without a doubt, the online multiplayer. It contains the same Exp. points, reward system, and most of the game modes from the first game, but introduces several new features. It features perks 2.0 and new streaks. There are several new killstreak and deathstreak rewards. The killstreak rewards range from the traditional UAV, to a tactical nuke, a predator missile, a AC-130 and many more. Another new feature, and not a very good one, is the new third-person mode. You might play it once or twice but won't be playing it all the time. You'll find that you will be playing most of your time online. I must say that it is a lot more fun to play than the original and you will lose yourself in the mindless action and excitement. Overall MW2 is great game with not only a fun campaign mode, but a thrilling and entertaining online mode. I give Modern Warfare 2 a 91 of 100. If you haven't already bought this game, you need to... Matt!

Movie Review-2012

It has been awhile since I reviewed any movies, so this means there will be a few reviews put up in next few days. 2012 is written and directed by the father of the disaster genre Roland Emmerich (Independence Day, The Day After Tomorrow). I wanted to see this film because Roland has mentioned that this will be his last disaster film and go out with a bang. He did not disappoint me. I am a fan of Roland's films such as Independence Day, Stargate, The Day After Tomorrow, and Godzilla and hoped he would redeem himself from what I think was a fluke 10,000 B.C. The film centers around the end of the world scenario of 2012 hence the title. This whole end of the world talk doesn't really scare me, but this film kind a makes me think. The movie centers around different characters throughout the entire film, which adds to the feeling of how its a disaster film and not only affecting a single group of people, but can give no feelings towards certain characters. I would say that Jackson Curtis (John Cusack) and his family are the main characters as they are in almost the entire film interacting with the other characters. The only thing that bothers me with Jackson Curtis is the originality of his name. The name is just Curtis Jackson (50 Cent) backwards, I mean come on get some original generic name even if is supposed to be funny. The thing I love about the movie are the spectacular special effects and variety of characters. The effects are amazing with the destruction of cities and the whole world. The suspense created during the destruction scenes with special effects is very affective. Hardly anything looked very fake, but very real. The Physics of the molten fireballs falling hitting the ground were so much better than the other special effects film this year when the autobots hit the ground in Transformers 2. That said the only real problem was the scientific inaccuracies and a sloppy script. Those faults are made up with yes I will say it, the effects. I will admit that this script has more heart put into it than other disaster films. The main point of the movie to me, is there will always be the selfish people out there even during total chaos, but there is people that will help others in the face of danger. I recommend that you see this movie in a theaters and not first on your home television. It will only really be worth seeing there for full effect of the film. I give 2012 an 79 out of 100.

On This Day

For the BTTF fans out there

On this day November 5, 1955 Doc Brown was hanging a clock over his toilet and slipped and bumped his head on the edge of the sink. He had a vision after being knocked out of what would become known as the Flux Capacitor. The Flux Capacitor makes time travel possible. He built a time machine out of a DeLorean in the 1980's using the Flux Capacitor. What a great idea for a trilogy of films and an animated tv series wouldn't you say.

The events never occurred and are fictional to my knowledge.

Daily Movie News

Its Wednesday time for your Daily Movie News.

* MTV talked to David S. Goyer for what we can expect for Ghost Rider 2, which he says its not exactly a reboot, but picks up 8 years after the first film. He said " I hate to say it's more realistic, because he's got a flaming skull for a head, but its a bit more stripped down and darker," he also said "It's definitely changing tone. What "Casino Royale" was for the Bond movies. Hopefully this will be to Ghost Rider."

* The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences have announced that Steve Martin and Alec Baldwin will serve as co-host of the 82nd Academy Awards.

* Anthony Hopkins has been cast as the Norse God Odin in Marvel Studios Thor. The film is to be directed by Kenneth Branagh (Frankenstein). Also starring Chris Hemsworth (Star Trek) and Tom Hiddleston . Natalie Portman is playing Thor's love interest Jane Foster. Filming starts in January 2010, for release on May 20, 2011.

* Columbia Pictures has hired Tropic Thunder writer Etan Cohen to pen the script for Men in Black 3. So far no deals have been made with franchise director, Barry Sonnenfield, and stars Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones to return. Studio looking to start filming in 2010, maybe as early as the spring. I don't know why they didn't make a sequel years ago with the $1.1 billion made by first two.

* ABC has a huge hit on their hands with the remake of the 1983 TV miniseries V. The remake brought in 13.9 million viewers for the pilot. This means that V is the biggest show to premiere at 8p.m. since Lost premiered. This is not including the DVR views of the show.

* Michael Jackson's Documentary This is It came in 1st at box office with $21 million. This is a little under the estimates but still very good.

The Stepfather Review

The Stepfather is a remake of the 1987 horror/thriller film of the same name. It's directed by Nelson McCormick, who has directed a lot of TV, but not many feature films. This is his second studio film; Prom Night was his first. I didn't really think it was that good. There wasn't any suspense in it and it was very predictable. It started off really slow and didn't pick up much until the end. The final showdown wasn't even that long, it was 5-10 minutes long and nothing really happended. Also, the trailer shows footage that wasn't in the movie, which I thought was kind of stupid. I do think that Dylan Walsh(Niptuck) was a good cast for the part because he was creepy and awkward. He was pretty believable. Overall, I think the movie is watchable, but it's not really recommeded. I give The Stepfather 78 of 100.
