'This is the End' Review

This is the End is on everyones radar because of the high concept of comedy stars (as themselves) surviving with each other during the apocalypse. You are intrigued, I know, but you are also weary to go further incase of let down. I must say you will be 'on cloud nine happy' how freaking funny this movie is!

The film was inspired by a 2007 short film that Seth Rogen and Jay Baruchel starred in called Jay and Seth vs. The Apocalypse. The short film was pretty promising and funny so it was nice to see they decided to expand upon it and go big or go home on it.

The plot is strikingly simple: Jay Baruchel decided to come to LA from Canada to hangout with his buddy, Seth Rogan, and have fun together. Seth gets Jay, unwilling, to go to James Franco's house warming party. Jay doesn't like any of those guys and feels out of place and go out for cigarettes with Seth. Apocalyptic mayhem soon ensues. They are than forced to live with each other and other big name comedians like Jonah Hill, Craig Robinson, and the awesome Danny McBride. Fun and messed up will for sure come from that mix of guys.

The film gives you a sense of realism to a certain degree of those guys being themselves at a party filled with so much current talent it was awesome. You had a hilarious, I mean hilarious version of Micharl Cera than Kevin Hart, Emma Watson, Rihanna, Paul Rudd, Jason Segal, and a few great others. They were so funny in the scenes they were in. I will say there are a few brilliant cameos that will literally make you tear up laughing so hard. It made the movie go up +5 points for being so random and hilarious. The guy behind me was stomping laughing so hard. I won't spoil it for you I promise. *as I type the name and deleted it because I want to tell the world!!*

The film is hilarious on its own accord, with the concept being funny, but the individual characters improvising is where the gold is. Director Evan Goldberg did a fantastic job of keeping the ball moving on the film with letting these guys literally be themselves and do their own sense of comedy. Surprisingly, all the jokes work great going off one another and will make you laugh just watching it. I know they are playing highly fictionalized version of themselves, but that is where they fun comes from all the way. I'm not really sure Jonah Hill is that overly nice, but I do believe that Danny McBride is that D#$% version of himself that is so fun to love to hate. Serously though Danny you are awesome if you ever read this review. He really did shine in the scenes he was in and almost stole the show.

I can't give all the credit of being great to Danny McBride because the whole cast did some of their best roles in a longtime. James Franco was hilarious, and Seth Rogen was actually really likable and couldn't have been better. I can't complain about any of the characters being so horrible they turned from being likable a-holes into straight up a-hole territory. It doesn't exist.

So you have a film about end of the world, comedy, action, adventure, whats missing..oh wait..there is an actually bromance part to it that fits perfect. The film is a few sketches sewn together to make a hilarious film, but a big factor from beginning to end is the relationship between good friends Jay and Seth. The relationship is rocky and the beginning and gets worse than better. You really start to like these guys and want them to live. They did great on keeping the film grounded enough so you could get to know these guys better than a few great jokes.

The only problems I could have with the film was one of it's best parts too. It really is a double edged sword. The simple plot gave room for times where it felt things needed to move on a little bit but they did great on trying to avoid it. The gore will make some uneasy because it was unexpected but it fits so well together it was meant to happen.

This is the End had an amazing cast, special effects, ideas, and cameos to make it a really fun film that will surpise a lot of people. It has its sweet moments, it's scary freaky moments, and its gut busting hilarious moments. If you are a fan of these guys previous films and humor, then you will greatly appreciate this film as one, if not, the best in their career to this point. And just think it was all without Judd Apatow behind the camera. If you coudn't care less about their usual humor than you will have trouble liking the running gags and few random jokes, but will likely find something you enjoyed a bit.

B+

I will tell people I gave it an A because of the one fantastic cameo I promised I wouldn't tell. *I typed it again and deleted it! It's killing me!*

Movie Trailers of Week - December 16th

So this week has been very busy with so a lot of trailers being released across the genres. I didn't have time to post them the days they all came out and I am just going to do them all in one big post. Here are the trailers for your enjoyment.

Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance - February 17, 2012

This trailer gives more of the plot and I think it looks better than the first only in cameras used not really plot. I've heard some really harsh words about this movie already with comments like Ghost Rider 2 makes Ghost Rider 1 look like The Dark Knight. I have really taken a blow to my hopes on the success of making a good movie with Ghost Rider.

Rock of Ages - June 1, 2012

Another musical is bound to happen a few times a year and most pan out pretty good. This one looks really great actually. Tom Cruise is the perfect person to play a full out rocker and the trailer shows it well. The story looks like not only girls can get into it but guys will have no problem with the amazing soundtrack of classic rock bands.

Jack the Giant Killer - June 15, 2012

This movie has been on a lot of peoples list waiting to see something for it. Director Bryan Singer hasn't had anything filmed by him seen in recent years because he has been working on this - his baby project. All I can say about this movie is I'm a little nervous about it. The plot has been used over and over but this has a new twist that could maybe work or blow up. Just watch trailer and see what you think.

The Dictator - May 11, 2012

Are you ready for the next Borat or Bruno? Well too bad if your not because this movie might just be that. Cohen has always had an eye for making out there movies with out there characters he gets way to into. This movie looks like it will have a few laughs but I'm not that impressed with it honestly. The only really funny part is the last scene in trailer.

Casa de mi Padre - March 16, 2012

I honestly don't know about this movie at all. I have no desire to see Will Ferrel play a role speaking spanish the entire time. I think it will have a market (mainly south..way south) but will not catch on mainstream. Just can't wait to have my wonderful girlfriend translate the movie for me. If not, I'm sure it will make a great soundtrack.

The Hangover Part II Teaser Trailer

The teaser trailer for The Hangover Part II that will hit theaters this weekend with Hall Pass has made its online debut a day early. The trailer doesn't show very much, actually it leaves more questions than answers. Director Todd Phillips has said he wanted it that way in former interviews.

Phil, Stu, Alan and Doug travel to exotic Thailand for Stu's wedding. After the unforgettable bachelor party in Las Vegas, Stu is taking no chances and has opted for a safe, subdued pre-wedding brunch. However, things don't always go as planned. What happens in Vegas may stay in Vegas, but what happens in Bangkok can't even be imagined.

The Hangover Part II will be released Memorial Day Weekend (May 26)

Some people might remember the really funny "Double Rainbow" video that made youtube headlines when it was released a few months ago. If you haven't don't worry I posted it below.

Disney seems to be making some vast improvements in their viral marketing by having parodies of famous YouTube videos. Hopefully, they will still make make more parodies in the future.

Disney's Tangled climbs in theaters on November 24, 2010

Here is the Tangled "Double Tower" video and below that is the original "Double Rainbow" video. Enjoy.

Michael Cera and Jason Schwartzman do the Weather In Atlanta

Michael Cera and Jason Schwartzman did some publicity for Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World on an Atlanta Fox News Affiliate and it was just hilarious.

The video shows mostly just Jason Schwartzman trying to the weather with Michael Cera just standing around most of the time, but it is just awesome to see what happens to Michael Cera during the bus stop report.

Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World is out Today

5 awesome Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World Posters

The guys doing the marketing for Edgar Wright's upcoming film Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World really get into marketing movies. I mean, this is the coolest thing I've seen for Scott Pilgrim in a long time. The posters aren't of Scott Pilgrim, but Movie Poster of Lucas Lee. Chris Evans is Lucas lee for those of you who were wondering.

Chris Evans character is a stereotypical action hero and he is probably my favorite evil ex in the movie because he is cool looking and was cast perfectly for being the jerk with an ego bigger then Toronto.

Scott Pilgrim vs. The World hits theaters this Friday, August 13.

My favorite is Action Doctor or Let's Hope There's A Heaven. Do you have a favorite poster?

I will review Scott Pilgrim in the next few days. So, check back later.

SDCC: Man stabbed in Hall H at Comic-Con

I guess some fans get a little uptight when the Universal Studios panel in Hall H was about to begin because there was a stabbing right before the panel . The news spread fast through the Hall that somebody was stabbed. I just couldn't believe somebody actually stabbed another person at Comic-Con.

I did some digging into the stabbing news and found out it really wasn't that bad of a stabbing. Apparently it was between two friends that got into an argument over them sitting to close to one another or over a seat that they both wanted. All in all, the guy stabbed his friend right next to his eye with a pen.

Here is a photo of the man who did the stabbing. At least he didn't stab his buddy in the back.

The panels in Hall H resumed an hour later.

SDCC: MegaMind Panel with Laughs

The MegaMind panel was the first panel of the day in Hall H and they kicked off the day with many laughs because of Will Ferrell's costume. Ferrell dressed up as his character from the film MegaMind. It is sad that Jonah Hill, Tina Fey and the no show Brad Pitt didn't follow in his footsteps with costumes.

Also, there was some funny jokes being thrown around by Tina Fey and Will Ferrell. Tina said "Whoever I met at the hotel last night, you left your Admiral Ackbar outfit in my room. I just want to know if I can keep it."  Ferrell added "It's a trap!"

Will said "I didn't actually have glasses on, but I huffed so much paint putting the costume on that I could still see it. It was actually triple what you guys saw." He said that after they finished the screening of some new footage in 3D.
