Smith Attached for Two Independence Day Sequels?

IESB is reporting a rumor that Will Smith has signed a deal with 20 Century Fox to make not just one but two sequels to Independence Day.

No news on if the rest of the cast and crew are coming back, but director Roland Emmerich said back in December that he has an idea for the sequel and wants to maybe make a trilogy. So, this rumor could have some truth to it.

Shooting may start as soon as 2011 and most likely to start filming after the completion of Will Smith's next film either Men In Black 3 or The City That Sailed. (When He chooses which one? I have No idea)

I do hope they make a trilogy because I love the first one and watched it many times in the late 90s. Smith and Goldblum were great together.

More News to come later when available

Legendary and WB Rebooting Godzilla

Legendary Pictures announced today that they will start development on a new film based on the classic Toho Studios giant monster Godzilla. Legendary will produce it with their partner Warner Bros. for a 2012 release.

They hope to have a director attached soon and cast will follow.

Hopefully, it will be Americanized and go for a new updated look. Don't get me wrong I watched every original Japanese movie and loved them. I just love the 1998 American film, even if it is critically blasted.

The Game Zone

Tuesday, March 23, 2010

  •  President and CEO of SCEA, Jack Tretton, confirmed that there will be a Killzone 3.  When asked about the thrird installment in the series, he wouldn't specify when it would be released, but did say that it was in development.  Killzone 2 was pretty amazing, I'm just hoping that Killzone 3 will be even better. Here's what jack said
"Well, we own Guerrilla Games and they did a great job on Killzone 1 and 2," he said. "I don't know if you'll see announcements about it, but I can promise you a Killzone 3."
  •  It's been announced that Electronic Arts and developer Visceral Games will release a new game based on the 19th century serial killer Jack the Ripper.  The game is reportedly a download-only title that will be available on the Playstation Networkk and Xbox Live.  Since it's being made by the same developers from Dead Space, it should be pretty interesting.
  • Warner Bros. Studios has announced a brand new game developing studio in Montreal, Quebec today.  The studio is said to be focusing on creating DC Comics licensed video game titles. The studio will house "high-end interactive gaming product development" as well as animation, QA, and game translation.  If they produce more games like Batman: Arkham Asylum then I say go for it.
  • Microsoft has confirmed the launch of a standalone 250GB hard drive for the Xbox 360 in North America.  The hard drive will put you back a whopping $129.99.  That's a little high when i bought my 500GB hard drive for my PS3 for only $100.  Microsoft has some pretty loyal customers if they're willing to pay that much for something so little.
  • Nintendo has announced the new 3DS, a new hand-held system scheduled for release before March of 2011.  The announcement stated that device will incorporate 3D technology without the players needing glasses.  The 3DS will be backwards compatible with all DS and DSi games.  It has many unconfirmed features.  These features include a new joystick, force-feedback, and increases in battery and wireless support.
  • In recent comments about Project Natal, it was said that there was a specific amount of space required for it to work properly.  Microsoft says that those comments were misinterpreted and ensures that Project Natal will work effectively in any room, no matter the size.  I guess we'll just have to find out for ourselves if it works or not when Natal is released globally this holiday season.

Chris Evans Confirmed as Captain America

Source: Variety

There have been so many rumors at who will portray Captain America in the Joe Johnston directed The First Avenger: Captain America. It's good to know that the search is over because Chris Evans has accepted Marvel Studios' offer for him to portray Steve Rogers/Captain America just hours ago.

The Marvel deal will call for him to star in at least 3 Captain America films, The Avengers, and cameos in other Marvel films. Thats a lot of dough for him.

I will say that he is on the top of the list for people who have the looks, attitude, and on film presents to play Rogers. I wish him luck and He will most likely be BA.

Also, Hugo Weaving will play the films main protagonist Red Skull. That is probably the best casting I have seen in a longtime.

More news later

Alice In Wonderland Review

I know it's a little late for a review on this movie, but I need to do at least a quick review.

Alice in Wonderland is good "Burton" from beginning until the pointless last half.

The movie started out very promising and held up with good acting from stars such as Johnny Depp, Helena Bonham Carter, Crispin Glover, Anne Hathaway, and Matt Lucas. The person that surprised me as being great was the main star Mia Wasikowska. She was believable at being a non girlie and odd young woman. I will say that Johnny Depp was perfect for Mad Hatter, but he ended up coming off as a slight scottish version of Jack Sparrow sometimes. That bothered me just a bit.

The story is intriguing because it isn't a remake or sequel according to Tim Burton. I think it's actually a mixture of both because it has some borrowed from the book and added some new scenes that added  emotional attachment to characters such as Alice and the Mad Hatter.

The direction Burton was going for is along the lines of his previous films, but maybe to much cgi for his taste. The 3D aspect of the film is lackluster at best and I would suggest that for this film it doesn't matter if you see it in 3D or not. The cgi was actually not bad and felt like who ever did the character and wonderland designs was tripping on acid. I mean just look at the world in the poster, it just looks like a Burton flick. The designs are very original and brilliantly colorful. I have to give a hand to them for that.

The movie just took a turn for worse close to the third act because the battle sequence felt like numerous other cg battles from average action films. It felt like they just added the scene to fill up time and could have done so much more during that part. Also, there was a utterly pointless, but entertaining dance number by the Mad Hatter. That just felt out of place.

I give Alice In Wonderland a

B-

Website Update News

I will do a quick review of some movies that have been out for some time. I am sorry for the delay in the reviews and this is do to no time between school and other various things. So, I will try to update the site with more content and keep it consistent weekly; therefore, we will have more post about games other than God of War and PS3 in the game section. Now, I can't say that is the only thing we need to work on because that would be a lie. I need to do more movie related post other than Trailers and Daily Movie News once a week. I was seriously considering doing Weekly Movie News, but that just seems to be to slow on the news.

We here at The Last Stand would like to thank are various supporters.

The Playstation Move's "Motion Fighter"

"Motion Fighter" is the working title of a newly announced game for the new Playstation Move, that was revealed at GDC this afternoon.  It is essentially a street fighting beat-em up that was demonstrated using 1:1 motion capability.  Sony said that overall the project is only around 20 percent finished so far.  Check out some screens below.

The Playstation Move

Today at GDC 2010, Sony finally announced the name for their new motion-control peripheral, the Playstation Move.  The Move is set to release later this year sometime in the fall in three options:  individually, bundled with a Playstation Eye camera, or bundled with the camera and a Playstation 3 console.

We had first seen it at Gamescon back in September, but Sony never actuall released any official press shots of the Move, until now.  The photos give a close look at the wand and the "nun-chuck" accessory, as well as the color that the illuminating ball atop the controller will glow.

I'm not sure if I love the Move, but I definitely don't hate it.  Even though I think the idea of motion controls are overrated and are just a desperate attempt to reach a broader audience, the Playstation Move could actually fun and appeal to more hardcore gamers.

Check out the official photos below and write what you think in the comments section.

Tron Legacy Trailer

The first full length trailer for the highly anticipated sequel film Tron Legacy has been released. I have waited for years for a follow up and I am impressed with what I see.

Tron Legacy is directed by Joseph Kosinski and starring Jeff Bridges (Crazy Heart), Garret Hedlund (Four Brothers), Olivia Wilde (House), Michael Sheen (Frost/Nixon), Bruce Boxleitner (Tron), and John Hurt (Hellboy). That is a star studded cast and Daft Punk will make a cameo I think.
