Zach Snyder Gives First Look at Batman and Batmobile

Finals are over!!! Yes! Yes! Ye..oh wait back to working on a top-notch website dedicated to movie and comics news I guess. Yes that sounds good to me because tons of big things are happening right now in the universe revolving around those things. Today is good because we get first look at Zack Snyder's Batman and batmobile.

Director Zack Snyder tweeted yesterday a little teaser image of the batmobile under a tarp prepped to be unveiled today. Well we were in for a treat!

Full pic of suit and batmobile after jump along along with a lighter color version to see full suit

Ellen Page Cast As Robin in Batman Vs. Superman!!

This might come to shock to many people but they announced today that Ellen Page has been cast as the boy (girl?) -wonder in Batman Vs. Superman. They are really getting edgy in this whole film with Jesse Eisenberg playing Lex Luthor and Ben Affleck as the man himself, Batman.

The news was broke today in a press conference that had Page in attendance. She stated that "Robin has always been a character I loved in comics" and continued to say "I really wanted the part so bad and I went to Zack and told him my take on the character and he loved it,"  She went into detail about how she wanted the part over Kitty Pryde since the beginning but Nolan wouldn't have the character in his story. She thought she would seize the day with Snyder on board to direct it. Hey it seems to have worked!

Also she said some really intersting things at the end of it with a little comment about how she wants to "stay with the character for a long time even into her later age and BEYOND." Beyond as in Batman Beyond?? Say what!?!

More news to follow

Oh and April Fools!!!!! Don't believe a word of this because its not true. Except the Lex Luthor bit. I still can't believe thats true....early April Fools with that one, huh Warner Bros?? (elbow jab in ribs).

Now back to serious news for the day...

6 Reasons Ben Affleck Can Rock Batman

Ok I know I missed like the biggest news of geek world since they announced the movie itself at Comic-Con, but lets get it out of the way shall we. Ben Affleck has been cast as Batman in the Man of Steel sequel titled Batman vs. Superman. That sentence is usually a joke thrown around but it is quite real and happening. I for one (of not many actually) think it could work! Here are my reasons why Ben Affleck can rock being Batman.

We Were Wrong In the Past

This will be just about everyone's main point of defense for the casting choice. It is also one of the best in almost any case. When Michael Keaton was cast as the Dark Knight himself as well, we freaked out because we couldn't fathom Mr. Mom being Bruce Wayne, let alone, a dark figure like Batman. It turned out amazing and he is still one of the best guys to wear the cowl. He wasn't the only one either. Quite possibly the best villain of all-time, the Joker,  got a aussie romance movie guy cast as him. That turned out to be one of the best casting decisions in recent memory, if not history. He got an academy award for it even!

It's Not the Same Ben From 10 Years Ago

Ben Affleck's career is something of dreams. Both nightmares and the sweetest of sweet dreams. He sprouted up in the 90s with some low-budget comedies and hit big around Armageddon and took off from there. His acting abilities didn't really show up great until Changing Lanes. He started showing some abilities. He took a dive with Gigli and Surviving Christmas. Lets not bring those up. He struck gold in 2006 with Hollywoodland (as Superman ironically) and hit after hit from then on! Also an academy award! (I know I keep bringing that up like it means something).

He Has Been Here Before

Ben Affleck is no stranger to wearing a skin-tight suit and mask. Growing up a huge Daredevil fan, he just had to take the role on. Don't get me wrong, Daredevil wasn't a great movie by any means, but it wasn't as bad as people seem to remember it. The film was full of missteps but mostly accredited to the director rather than Affleck. He was a great Matt Murdock but ehh Daredevil. That for Batman's sake, is a good thing because he knows what works and doesn't for him. He's been around the block.

He Will Bring More to Table Than Just Looks

This guy is extremely multitalented. He wrote one of my all-time favorite 90s movies (Good Will Hunting) and directed and starred in another two great films (The Town, Argo). He has pushed himself to be better at everything involving a movie. Writer/Director/Actor is a big thing to grasp and he's seemed to master it. So having an academy award winning writer/director starring in a film, you are bound to hopefully get some feedback if you're Zack Snyder. That is like having 2 directors on set.

He Looks the Part Perfectly

Ben Affleck was chosen for more than his A-list name. He looks the part of a seasoned Bruce Wayne billionaire playboy and could pull off the The Dark Knight body-type and look. That jawline was made for a superhero mask. He is working out 2 hours a day for the part . So no doubt he will have the current Batman body-type that is popular in comics. I can see the Bruce Wayne part being fantastic but the Batman part is going to be a little hard to picture until I see some footage. He should have learned by now what made his Daredevil not that great.

Ben Affleck has caused quite a stir and revolt from Batfans over the weekend. I have to keep a more open mind about things because you can't just a character based on previous work. He isn't Uwe Boll! (fellow Boll haters know what i'm talking about.) I do think there could have been possibly better choices but there could be so many worse choices as well.

What is your thoughts?

Man of Steel Review

Superman has been long overdue for a cinematic tale to show how amazing of a character he truly is, director Zack Snyder has finally given the world exactly that. This isn't your fathers superman and that is a great thing! Welcome to the 21st Century Superman.

When I first heard that visionary director Christopher Nolan was overseeing the production of a new Superman, I almost fainted. This was a huge fanboy dream, to have the Batman director working on Superman. The Man of Steel has been in grave need to be rebooted into something that has stable ground with the current world, so we can relate to it better. The Christopher Reeve movies are great in their own way and will always be dear to me, but as a fanboy, we needed a grittier man in (no) tights.

Man of Steel starts off with a bang I wasn't expecting but gleefully accepted. We were able to see Krypton in all it's glory and finally get to know Jor-El better than a few scenes in the fortress of solitude. Many fans will appreciate that because all they ever known was a select few Marlon Brando scenes. Hell, Russell Crowe is in the film almost a total hour! That is awesome. The early scenes help us see the world where Kal-El came from and what happened to the home world. It sets the tone of film nicely and was good to see.

The film didn't stop there with the surprises in storytelling and story itself. We see Kal-El doing his thing in the Alaskan area and than it gets weird. Good weird though, for most part that is. The origins of Clark Kent are basically done it flashbacks to important times that help us see what shapes his moral compass. Yes this film is not chronological, but riddled with flashbacks. It might be disruptive to some, but it was a brisk storytelling idea that helped us learn more about him than an hour of young clark growing up. (which we have seen time and time again.) This film is filled with surprises.

This film is about a young Clark Kent/ Kal-El growing into being Superman. The plot revolves around Clark finding out about his past, becoming something more, and trying to fit in. This film is very much a sci-fi film because it isn't just about Superman being here and us all accepting it. It is about an alien dealing with what he is in on earth. We see how the humans would react to him. This part we hardly ever get to see in a Superman mytho. It gives us a great "what if" scenario in the real world. This plot point was greatly accepted by me and you connect well with the film. There is a lot of plot points that aren't seen very often and especially in a Superman movie.

If Lois Lane is in a Superman film, we usually get a Superman movie turned into a Lois and Clark movie. We don't need that anymore. We had the 90s tv series to go through all that. Man of Steel takes a step away from the old love tale to be a minor thing that is just there. It works perfectly with the story they are telling. So if you are wanting a lot of Lois love going on, I'm sorry bud. Don't think Lois won't be seen in it, she is for sure here. By the end of the film you will see what direction the relationship will be going in later films. Amy Adams did a great job with her character. In fact, the cast was spot on everywhere!

Superman is greatly known for his morals donned on him by his fathers both real and adopted, Pa Kent and Jor-El. These characters are quite possibly just as hard to cast as Superman himself. They nailed them dead on! The casting of Russell Crowe and Kevin Costner as Jor-El and Jonathan Kent, were hands down the best casting choices in recent movie history. Their performances were standouts and you just wanted to see more of them throughout. The scenes they were in were deeply important to us for understanding Clark as a person. We saw how he was molded morally by these men. To really feel the impact of that you must have a great actor portraying them. They greatly succeeded.

Now, for the villains, we finally get to see the return of General Zod and his crew to the big screen. Their appearance in Superman II holstered a great cast of Terrance Stamp as Zod. So naturally thats what we compare any future ones too. Michael Shannon as Zod took a bold and dark take that gives a great commanding evil vibe. We see sides of Zod that we never have seen before in the scenes between him and Jor-El and learn why he is the way he is. Creepy and more layers than ever before can take a character long ways. Honestly, his sidekick Faora was a surprise because she has never had more than a few moments to show her evilness. She was greatly cast and scary as Zods right hand woman.

The entire supporting cast was fantastic with only a few characters I wish we got fleshed out more. For instance, Laurence Fishburne's Perry White was an odd choice but worked great. Just wished we could have seen more of his comical side. Christopher Meloni was given a role he was born to play. Military. What else could you ask for from him? He did great and was given a few great lines.

Director Zack Snyder is very talented with detail in all his films. Sometimes, so much he misses on story. Don't get me wrong, I am a huge fan of Watchmen and 300, but he has failed at Sucker Punch so bad I almost lost hope. Sorry for doubting you Zack! You gave great detail to Superman along with a briskly paced film that gives a different storytelling take on the character that works for most. We get to skip the moments we've seen more than enough before. Also, the idea to not use Superman's John William's theme was a big heartbreaker at first, but the new Hans Zimmer take gives it's on magical moments that just add depth to the scenes.

Man of Steel has proven itself to be a great take on Superman that many have wanted but many also are apprehensive towards a non "golden age" take on the character. The big climatic scene will push fans into a heated argument for the near future. I say it was a necessary take on Man of Steel to bring him into 2013 and give us a good idea where the DC connected film universe will be going down the road. As for origin films go, Man of Steel succeeds in many of the categories. It never slows down but is edgy enough to change some big set in stone factors and works for most people. The non-linear storytelling was a fresh approach to a comic book movie. The character development is pretty good though out on everyone except Clark kent getting his little quirky remarks to people. Maybe in future we will get more of that.

All said, Man of Steel was an accomplishment in that fact DC can make a hit other than Batman and with the world setting up a bigger shared universe, it is getting good for us. The origins of Superman have been told in this and will hopefully show repercussions in future films on his moral compass. We are heading in the right direction DC. Thank you!

Man of Steel Viral Marketing Takes Off with General Zod Wanting Superman's Surrender

Man of Steel has always had a slight presence on the web since the beginning but the viral stuff has been pretty background until last couple of days. The viral kicked it into overdrive and went all out with multiple websites and times. We finally got the video that it all led up to and it's pretty awesome, I have to say. Michael Shannon as General Zod is going to be perfect.

The video is Zod telling the people of Earth, we have been keeping one of his citizens and he wants the dude back. Well, is Superman going to go back without a fight? I don't think so. Check out the eerie video of Zod giving Superman 24 hours to surrender. Also, the new trailer is rumored to be online soon.

Rumor: Christopher Nolan Overseeing Justice League, Zack Snyder Maybe Directing, and Christian Bale Back as Batman

This has to be one of the biggest rumors that Latino Review has released in a very long time (although they can be very credible). It blows the Marvel 'World War Hulk' Avengers storyline out of the water. Before I go any farther in this rumor…just know it is exactly that and I have trouble believing all of it. Just so many factors I see that go against it.

The rumor is a behemoth, Latino Review reported last night that Chris Nolan has already taken over the DC Universe at Warner Bros and every superhero film in production must go through him first. That is a huge thing to drop but lets move on first. Also, they said that Zack Snyder is going to co-produce, if not maybe direct it with Christian Bale returning as Bruce Wayne/Batman. This whole article just got crazy and your (if your a geek/nerd) mind is going nuts right now.

So lets get in the fine points of this and strip down them (the rumors, people).

Chris Nolan taking on godfather role over DC Universe

Chris Nolan taking on a huge role in overseeing DC Universe pictures for Warner Bros. is a huge nerdgasm for all fans, but honestly what are the chances of him doing that. Nolan is known for giving us the biggest Batman series with arguably one of the best pictures of the century. He is a huge fan himself, but he doesn't want to always be doing superhero stuff and he's said that before. This man is a highly productive sought after director. How can the man who only works on one film at a time manage a vast catalogue of superheroes leading up to Justice League film. I think chances are slim for him to be a big contributor in the grand scheme, but maybe a guy to help bring the players together and make something happen and put in his 2 cents. I just don't see him in a Kevin Fiege role (only purpose is to manage Marvel films), he is a filmmaker. I give this rumor a plausibility, but not to the full extent of him being greatly involved.

Zack Snyder Producing and Possibility Directing

Zack Snyder is a huge fan of all things comics and with a two great comic book films under him (300, Watchmen), and with hearing early reviews of Man of Steel being amazing, I can see this man up for the challenge of producing and even directing a Justice League film. He knows a lot about how the mechanics of these types of films work and has a great visual appearance in all of his films. The balance of Justice League resting on the shoulders of Man of Steel, If proven a success, Warner Bros. would be in great thought to get him on board. I think this rumor is very plausible and I can see him wanting to take on the film.

Christian Bale returning as Bruce Wayne aka Batman

Here is the only really big problem I have with this rumor. Christian Bale is a great Batman, don't get me wrong, but he has said the only way he would come back was if Nolan came up to him with a way to make a fourth film work. Would Justice League be considered the fourth film? Warner Bros. reportedly wants to tie the world into The Dark Knight universe, while cool, would really make the 3 films have no meaning with seeing how Bruce Wayne became something bigger and changed things in Gotham and put up the cowl. Although, I do admit, since Man of Steel is said to be more down to each and in tone of the series, I can see it happening. I think I could adjust to it sooner or later. Still, it doesn't change the fact that Bale would likely only join if Nolan was somewhere on board. So it is true Nolan is overseeing it, Bale couldn't be to far behind the bandwagon.

Just remember folks, these are all just rumors for now. No matter how crazy they are, you just never know. Latino Review has a pretty good track record with DC, but we all get stuff wrong sometime...

I was very interested in this pic before with Zack Snyder directing and Chris Nolan producing*bow to them*, but after seeing this trailer, I can't wait to see it! New Man of Steel Poster is Instagram Good!

Warner Bros. promised a few weeks ago a new "Exclusive Reward" from Man of Steel when the home video release of The Dark Knight Rises hit. Well, it is here and its a new poster! I must say it's kind of a cool idea for a poster and kind of cool looking but come on Warner Bros. it looks like it was a screenshot of the trailer and put up on Instagram. I do however like that we aren't getting the usual heroic pose or flying shot of Superman.

Here is the new poster for Man of Steel flying into theaters on June 14, 2013

Comic-Con: Man of Steel Panel Recap!

After that spectacular first look at Pacific Rim we were blessed with first look at footage or anything of Zack Snyder's Superman reboot film Man of Steel! Snyder is no stranger to Comic-Con or Hall H with previous films Watchmen and Sucker Punch. We were finally blessed with a trailer of Man of Steel and  new poster (below).

The trailer that was shown started with a few shots around a farm and a young Clark Kent walking towards the woods with a bag. We hear a voice over with Clark Kent, Jor-El (Russell Crowe), Pa Kent (Kevin Costner) saying something about how people will be afraid of what they don't understand.

Next comes a few quick shots of Lois Lane kissing Superman, Jor-El, and a brief look at General Zod! (Snyder still won't admit he is the main villain). Then some more shots of Clark as a kid wearing a red towel. Then a scene where he is saving a school bus that crashed. Cut's to Clark seeing the ship in the barn and even meeting Jor-El in the Fortress of Solitude. A very quick shot at The Daily Planet in an elevator. The most sought after footage of Superman flying and going through the clouds.

The best news is to expect the trailer to be released before The Dark Knight Rises on Friday!!!

Bearded Superman and Redheaded Lois Lane

Like I mentioned earlier this week, filming is currently taking place in Vancouver for Man of Steel. The next superman film directed by visionary Zack Snyder.

Here is little bit of weird news from the set. Superman/Clark Kent has a big lumberjack beard and Lois Lane is strawberry blonde. I can't believe it either folks.

The ideas on why Clark Kent has a beard and is in an Alaskan fishing village are stirring around on the net. Could Clark be going on a self-finding trip or is he hiding from General Zod (Michael Shannon), or Lois Lane. Who knows? well Zack Snyder and the cast likely do but thats beside the point.

We will have to wait 2 years to find out whats happening!! Man of Steel flies into theaters June 14, 2013

Zack Snyder Directing Superman Reboot

Zack Snyder
Heat Vision is reporting Director Zack Snyder (300, Watchmen, Dawn of the Dead) has been hired to direct the upcoming reboot of Superman.

Zack Snyder was just one of five directors on the short-list that Christopher Nolan picked to direct the Superman reboot. The other directors include:  Matt Reeves (Cloverfield), Tony Scott (Unstoppable), Jonathan Liebesman (Battlefield: Los Angeles) and Duncan Jones (Moon).

I think Snyder was the best choice of the bunch to be honest.  He has had the most experience in comic-book movies and he can really make superman awesome again.

Snyder just had an interview with Deadline and said "I've been a big fan of the character for a long time, he's definitely the king of all superheroes, he's the one. It's early yet, but I can tell you that what David [Goyer] and Chris [Nolan] have done with the story so far definitely has given me a great insight into a way to make him feel modern. I've always felt he was kind of awesome. I'll finish 'Sucker Punch' and get right at it."

The Superman Reboot is being fast tracked at Warner Bros. because of the legal problems with the superman creators (Joe Shuster and Jerry Seigel) relatives. Warner Bros. has to be in-production of the film by 2011 or the rights go to the relatives and no more superman movies.

This superman film has potential to be an amazing comic-book film because it has The Dark Knight director Christopher Nolan as executive producer and Batman begins writer David S. Goyer. Then they have Watchmen director Zack Snyder directing it.  This could be so epic.

More news to come

First Pic for Sucker Punch

EW has the first pic of the girls from Zack Snyder's upcoming film Sucker Punch. I have been a huge fan of Snyder since his directorial debut Dawn of the Dead. I have been waiting for anything Sucker Punch related since Comic-Con last year. It kills me to not be able to see footage of it at the Con this year because I can't go at all.

The pic does show mostly what I pictured in my head, but it does seem a little darker then I thought it would end up being. I really like it and hopefully we can see footage of it soon.

Comingsoon.net has given a great synopsis for it "Set in the 1950s, Sucker Punch follows Babydoll who is confined to a mental institution by her stepfather, who intends to have her lobotomized in five days. While there, she imagines an alternative reality to hide her from the pain, and in that world, she begins planning her escape, needing to steal five objects to help get her out before she is deflowered by a vile man."
