“I didn’t want to make the movie 3D because when you have things that big, the thing that happens naturally is you’re looking at two buildings at 300 feet. If you move, the buildings don’t go like this (moves his hands closer together), there’s no parallax. They’re so big that you barely notice anything no matter how fast you’re moving, so to force the 3D effect on robots and monsters that are supposed to be that high, you’re making them miniaturized, you’re making them human-scale. I knew that the 3D effect sounded like a great idea, but it was gonna be counter.”So, unfortunately the studio will always get their way in the end to make more money. Since 3D cost more for a ticket it should be a bigger hit, especially overseas. This film is about giant robots and monsters fighting and set in some parts of Japan…big bucks to be made in the Asian markets.
The film will still be released in 2D along with 3D. So, hopefully del Toro works something out great to make the film work in 3D and still normal in 2D. I hate conversations that are horrible. Best of wishes to you del Toro.
What do you think about the change? Will you still see it?
