First Trailer for Elysium is Amazing!

TriStar has released the first trailer for District 9 directors new film Elysium on Yahoo and I must say I'm geeking out like any other sci-fi fan out there. Neil Blomkamp knows his expertise is sci-fi and he has another film up his sleeve that is star powered (Matt Damon, Jodie Foster) and full of so much awesomeness.

In the year 2154, two classes of people exist: the very wealthy, who live on a pristine man-made space station called Elysium, and the rest, who live on an overpopulated, ruined planet. The people of Earth are desperate to escape the crime and poverty that is now rampant throughout the land. The only man with the chance to bring equality to these worlds is Max (Matt Damon), an ordinary guy in desperate need to get to Elysium. With his life hanging in the balance, he reluctantly takes on a dangerous mission – one that pits him against Elysium's Secretary Delacourt (Jodie Foster) and her hard-line forces – but if he succeeds, he could save not only his own life, but millions of people on Earth as well.

Here is the trailer for Elysium that hits theaters on August 9th

Karl Urban is Judge Dredd

A couple of weeks ago, there was rumors that the new Judge Dredd has been cast and it was the New Zealand actor Karl Urban's (Red, Star Trek) name that kept popping up. They were just rumors at the time and the casting of Urban was confirmed by the Judge Dredd producers Andrew MacDonald and Allon Reich in an interview by Empire.

They said: “The main thing about Dredd is that it’s a fantastic comic that was completely messed up 20 years ago. Our idea is to make a very hard, R-rated, gritty, realistic movie of Dredd in Megacity, so we’ve got to get the tone right. He’s not going to take off his helmet. His bike is going to feel real. He’s going to hit people and it’s going to feel real. There’s been a change in comic-book movies; they were treated unseriously and now they’re treated seriously."

This is the big news "We’ve cast a guy called Karl Urban to play Dredd."

Here is an interesting bit of information: "We’ll be shooting in Johannesburg, it’s being directed by Pete Travis, we’re shooting with the people who did District 9 – and if we get it right, Alex has a couple of ideas for other stories as well. It’s not based on any one comic, and John Wagner is involved in every decision."

I think is great news from every aspect of casting, keeping helmet on full time, gritty and shooting with District 9 people.
